James Hatchitt Honored for Providing Pro Bono Legal Services

By Weisbart Springer

Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas honored the firm’s James Hatchitt at the organization’s Judge Suzanne Covington Pro Bono Awards.  The annual honors recognize individuals and firms in Central Texas that have given their time and talent during the previous year to provide access to justice. Named in honor of Judge Suzanne Covington, the awards celebrate those who carry forward her legacy of service, advocacy, and dedication to justice.

During 2025-2026 James worked on more than five pro bono cases, including:

  • on behalf of a school janitor whose new truck was repossessed, and the lender was pursuing him for tens of thousands of dollars. The lender ultimately dropped the claim.
  • on behalf of an individual regarding a personal loan. James negotiated a reduction of more than 85% and small monthly payments to settle the debt.
  • on behalf of a driver whose vehicle was damaged in a shopping center parking lot. The driver received the full cost of repairs from the shopping center.

The firm congratulates James on this honor and for his service to others.
